How we research our guides

A guide is published only after each step has been checked against the current version of the device, operating system or app it covers. We say which versions that is, and when we checked.

The process for every guide

  1. Start from the official source. Settings guides are built from the maker's own help pages, such as Apple Support or Google's Family Link help, and those pages are linked in the guide.
  2. Check the menus on a real device where we can. When a screenshot appears in a guide, it was taken on a real device. When we could not check a step on a device ourselves, the guide says so.
  3. State what each setting does and does not do. Many limits are easy for a determined child to get around. We say so, and explain what helps.
  4. Compare apps on facts. For paid parental control apps we compare published features, supported devices and current prices, and we cite where each fact comes from.
  5. Record the date. Each guide shows when it was last checked.

Printables

Our routines, charts and activity cards are designed by us for this site. They are free to print for your own home and classroom.

Keeping guides current

Devices get major updates every year. We re-check our most-read guides after each update and change the "Last checked" date when we do. If you find a step that no longer matches your device, tell us on thecontact page.

How we use AI in our work

We use AI tools to help research, draft and design. Facts are checked against the sources we link, and nothing is presented as a personal experience unless it happened.

How we make money

Some guides contain affiliate links, and the site may show ads. A commission never decides what we recommend, and we always point out free options built into your devices. Details are in ouraffiliate disclosure.
